Visual Studio Code, Microsoft's code editor for Windows, Linux and macOS has just reached a milestone release. The Nano update brings some highly desired features for those who use Visual Studio Code as their code editor of preference on the go. Visual Studio Code is an open-source code editor which works great whether you're a dedicated developer or building a side project. It has a sleek look and feel, with intelligent features including built-in Git control and support for more languages than any other tool available today. Nano Update – Pull Requests – One of the most helpful additions to Visual Studio Code in this update is the ability to review any outstanding pull requests from your GitHub account directly from within VS Code. If you're like me and use GitHub frequently, this update will make your everyday coding life much easier. Visual Studio Code Editor – This upcoming feature is still in development, but will likely be the most useful feature in the Nano update. The VS Code editor has been beefed up to support syntax highlighting for C-based languages including C#, C++, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript and more. You can read more about it here . "One of the things that makes Visual Studio Code awesome is how adaptable it is for everyday developers," Microsoft said in a blog post . "We launched our extension marketplace last year to empower the community with an easy way to share extensions—and we've seen great stuff since then. Such as a file renaming extension that uses a clever regex to find a file name based on its extensions, and one that converts 'git log -p' into something more human-readable, and more. Our goal with this release of Visual Studio Code was to expand on that concept and enable developers to create powerful extensions for VS Code alongside the core features of the editor. These extensions then live inside the VS Code marketplace—which means you can install them from the marketplace on any machine you have VS Code installed on." One benefit of creating your own extension is that it's easy enough for newbies but robust enough for advanced developers. There are tons of great extensions already available in the Visual Studio Code marketplace, including ones that color code your code based on package dependencies or auto-format it once you save. An interesting extension for this release is one I built Visual Studio Code Notebook . It allows you to create notes to yourself while you're coding that will be synced with other snippets in the same project. You can even delete any of these notes at any time. "One of the cooler features tucked inside this release is the ability to quickly find all the files that belong to a particular branch, branch name or tag," Microsoft says . This is a major productivity boost from one of the most annoying parts of coding. That's mostly because this release adds a new command in the File menu to 'Find in Workspace' to let you search for files, branches and tags easily. You can also now use expandable sections in the File Explorer to navigate your project quickly, and see all your open files in a single view . This makes it easier to find where you're actively working without having to use multiple tools. Visual Studio Code is free and runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. It's lightweight, fast-loading and has been built from the ground up with developers in mind. cfa1e77820
