When Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety was released, it had a poor plot but a hilarious take on the story of the famous Shakespearian play Romeo and Juliet. In this movie, Sushmita Mukherjee plays the role of Luvleen, a student from Bombay who falls in love with Titu (Pritam), a Punjabi boy from Patiala too poor to come see her. The plot is quite similar to that of Romeo and Juliet as the two families are mortal enemies and didn't want their children to fall in love with each other. But Luvleen keeps trying to win over his heart despite adversity from both sides. Pretty much the same as Romeo and Juliet. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has a unique humor that is not really funny but makes you cringe and spits out all the misery you've been through your whole life. It's the kind of dark humor where you don't realize how dark it is until after watching it for a second time and realizing how terrible the movie's plot is, and how bad it actually is to be laughing at such horribly made jokes. The first half of the movie takes complete focus on Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and their love story which grabs your attention with amazing visuals and an awesome OST (Original Sound Track) that was created by Badshah. During this time, the movie slowly introduces other characters in the story and slowly builds a tension around them. First, it leads you to believe that there was a misunderstanding somewhere but after a while, it leads you to believe that there was no misunderstanding at all. This is where the real plot for Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety begins because none of these characters have been introduced until now and none of them know what Luvleen and Titu talked about in their one conversation they had in their whole lives. Their conversations were always hidden from others; even their parents didn't know about them. It turns out that they actually planned to do a suicide pact and so, the rest of the movie focuses on their plans and how Luvleen was able to help Titu's family save him. The film was declared tax free in Uttar Pradesh after the huge public demand for making Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety tax free in UP State. UP government had announced that the movie would be made tax free in the state soon after its release. Following which, hoardings of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety were removed from multiplexes across the city stating that there are no taxes on it.
